Vintage Vegas!

So I’m pretty stoked that vintage stores are opening back up in downtown Las Vegas. When the economy tanked Vegas was hit harder than most cities. We lost so many small businesses, people moved away, it was pretty sad. With the success of History Channel’s shows Pawn Stars, and Rick’s Restoration (and a few more spin-offs I’ve seen ads for) people are seeing a side of Vegas that hasn’t really been seen before. Away from the sparkle and glitz of the strip, you can shop some great new vintage shops, and have renewed faith that Vegas can make it’s mark as a big little city outside of the tourism market.

So let me give you a sneak peak on my finds. I do have to say I kind of failed to write down the names of the shops I visited, and which pieces were located where, but I will tell you the vintage store are located downtown on Main street and the major cross street is Colorado. But just walk down Main and you should find about 5 pretty large shops.

So lets start with this crushed green velvet love seat and matching sofa. I do have to say the upholstery was so tragic it was amazing. And while the lines of the sofa are beautiful, and it would look amazing reupholstered in a crisp clean linen, the vintage green velvet was in such amazing condition it would kind of be a shame to reupholster these. So I love them in all their Oscar the Grouch glory.

And how about this piano coffee table. I’m OBSESSED. What a unique way to repurpose a piano into such a functional beautiful piece. The only thing I don’t like about this coffee table is, that I didn’t think of designing it, and I didn’t make it.

I’ve been seeing these tall skinny tufted guys around a lot lately. I can’t say I love them, but I do wonder if there is a way they could be used so I would love them. I’m intrigued but not sold.

This campaign style dresser was so pretty and a steal at $190. I normally see these pained and I love them painted but I do really like it stained as well. I would like to take a bit of the gloss off the finish and make it a bit more matte, but it’s simple beautiful and can go with any style in any space. I may just have to go back and adopt it.

And what about this amazing chair. It’s called a Safari chair (I think) Emily Henderson owns two of these guys in a carmel color that I believe she got in Portland, Oregon.

What are the chances of me running into another one here in Vegas?? I love him, and there was only 1. He had a different style but similar friend who I failed to take a picture of because I was so excited to see him. Anthropologie sells new ones about $2500 each, and this guy was well below that price point, however Emily got the best steal because she purchased her 2 chairs for the price of this 1.

Thats the Anthropologie version. I want to go back and adopt the Vegas cousin so badly…

Then there were these… Butt slings I shall call them. Totally weird and interesting. I’m not super into chrome but I like that they look like they are smiling at me and begging me to put my butt onto them.

There were two of these Knoll office chairs. I have a thing for interesting office chairs… they are hard to find, hard to find comfy ones and I’m not a huge fan of a generic office chair. HOWEVER I do have a bad back so I still sit in my generically bad office chair and long for an amazing one. These guys could be it, with some new upholstery of course. I just wasn’t 100% sold on them.

There was this guy too, who was a steal at $30 BUT I need two because I have a chair at my computer and a chair at my sewing machine so I want two matching pretty chairs. He had a wobble but at that price I could totally fix him. The amazing thing is I found his bother at another store down the street but they wanted $160 for the same chair… minus the wobble. Because the brother was so overly priced I passed on both.

Loved this burly man bear sofa. The lines were good. The brown fuzzy upholstery was in good condition BUT I’m over a brown sofa. Dark sofas feel so heavy in a room. His lines were good and he’d be a great reuphostered masterpiece. I like that he’s super deep, his cushions are in excellent shape and the back was low so it would work where someone would have to place a sofa in front of a window. I think he would love amazing as a charcoal grey or navy blue.

This creepy doll was breaking the rules….

Did I mention I love creepy dolls?? This one is pretty normal looking except for that one eye… which takes him from normal to amazing.

And it wouldn’t be Vegas without a showgirl.

Or a giant light up seahorse.

So overall it was a super fun trip. Plus I got a hang out with the hubby all day who actually liked vintage shopping more than he thought, plus we found him a vintage brass fire hose nozzle for his “clubhouse” room.
